Reduce or even completely eliminate discomfort and feel confident in your own skin! Liposuction for lipedema paves the way to a completely new life for affected women. The thorough removal of diseased fat cells often counteracts years of discomfort and aesthetic dissatisfaction.
However, depending on the extent of the surgery, excess skin can become a problem as a result of liposuction. At LIPOCURA®, the well-being of our patients is very important to us, which is why we strive for a holistic treatment.
In order to achieve an aesthetically pleasing overall appearance, we can tighten the skin with surgical needling as part of the liposuction procedure in cases with very little excess skin. This is a skin regenerating and tightening treatment. For our patients, this means that we can improve the structure and appearance of their skin and visibly smooth out irregularities.
We have summarised the most important information about tightening the skin with surgical needling for you below. We will also gladly advise you in person.

Surgical needling works by activating the body’s own regeneration mechanisms and creating new, healthy skin components – especially the protein collagen, which gives the skin firmness and elasticity. The final result, however, takes some time. You should therefore not expect the desired improvement to occur immediately. It takes several months for the natural renewal processes of the skin to be fully completed and for surgical needling to achieve its maximum effect.
In order to trigger the regeneration processes, we create microscopic punctures during surgical needling. These minimal skin injuries stimulate the body’s own growth factors and the production of collagen. Among other treatment benefits, it can be used to treat deep, extensive scars, stretch marks as well as fine lines and wrinkles.
Since it is a natural procedure, surgical needling can be repeated as often as desired.
Needling to improve the appearance of the skin can be used anywhere on the body. At LIPOCURA® we perform the skin tightening procedure after lipedema removal. The most common application areas are:
Surgical needling is performed at our clinic under general anaesthesia and right before the lipedema surgery. Your attending physician applies pressure to your skin with a roller fitted with a very fine 3 mm needle. Initially there will be tiny bleeding punctures, which will increase during the course of the treatment. For best treatment results, we continue this process until there is extensive bleeding through thousands of small punctures. It wears off after two minutes. Next, we clean the blood off your skin, and the tumescent solution is infiltrated for liposuction.
Patients whose skin has been slightly stretched by lipedema can benefit from surgical needling. This type of tightening is a good solution for very slightly pronounced findings. With the help of needling, we can stimulate the build-up of collagen and elastin so that the skin tightens within six to twelve months.
After the surgery you may feel a slight burning sensation for a few hours, similar to a sunburn. If necessary, you will be given painkillers after the surgery.
A plus point of the method: It is a natural correction method. Generally, the skin exhibits slight redness and swelling after the treatment.
If there is excess skin and needling is not sufficient to achieve the desired result, we can perform a laser treatment instead. We will gladly provide you detailed information about this procedure.
The costs of skin-tightening surgical needling at LIPOCURA® vary depending on the size and number of the body areas treated. We will gladly provide you with a detailed proposal during a personal consultation based on your findings and your individual wishes.
