Treating lipedema can involve various medical services and associated costs. For many affected individuals, the question of financial framework and possible participation by the health insurance fund arises early on. Especially for surgical procedures such as liposuction, there is often uncertainty about which services must be paid privately and in which cases (partial) reimbursement is possible.
At LIPOCURA®, we place great value on transparency. Our goal is to give patients a realistic overview of potential treatment costs even before the first consultation.
Schedule a consultation
The initial consultation is the first step toward an individually planned lipedema treatment. It can take place by phone, video, or on-site at one of our specialist centers and already provides a well-founded medical assessment.
Costs for the initial consultation:
*Amount may differ for private patients.
What we offer as part of the initial consultation:
Our specialists take the time to thoroughly understand your complaints and to develop the right treatment path for you—medically sound and guided with empathy.
The costs for lipedema treatment are based on the individual treatment plan, which includes the number of necessary procedures and the areas to be operated on. Because our LIPOCURA® method removes up to 10% of body weight in diseased tissue per operation, on average only 2–3 operations* are required.

We know that costs are a major challenge for many affected individuals and their families, as they are largely paid privately. Please don’t hesitate to ask us about financing options during your personal consultation.
The number of operations may vary. **Costs as of October 2025. Surgical costs are subject to change over time.
Liposuction for lipedema is recognized as a treatment therapy. If an additional medical indication is present and confirmed by an independent physician, this allows us to bill lipedema liposuction without VAT.
In addition, you may be able to claim treatment costs for tax purposes as an extraordinary burden.

Since July 2025, individuals with statutory insurance can receive under strict conditions (including six months of continuous conservative therapy without weight gain, BMI < 35, etc.) liposuction for lipedema as a health insurance benefit in public hospitals. This is important recognition of liposuction as a therapeutic option for stages I and II as well. However, comparability with our LIPOCURA® concept is not straightforward.
LIPOCURA® is a private clinic that operates at the highest medical and aesthetic level. Our specialists undergo intensive LIPOCURA® training and independently perform around 120 operations per year. The numerous additional services necessary to achieve the individual LIPOCURA® result are currently not covered by the GKV.
Our offerings of scar-sparing skin tightening within one operation, the treatment of correction patients, and the care of additional affected areas such as the back, buttocks, or chest are also not part of the new regulation. Added to this are over 15 years of experience and the consistent specialization of the entire team in lipedema therapy.
Whether a partial cost coverage is possible in individual cases is at the discretion of your health insurance provider. We therefore recommend discussing possible reimbursement options with your insurer at an early stage.
Since July 2025, those with statutory insurance have, thanks to a G-BA decision, a basic entitlement to liposuction for lipedema, regardless of stage (I, II, or III). The prerequisite is that at least six months of conservative therapy—such as lymphatic drainage, compression, or exercise therapy—has previously been carried out without achieving sufficient symptom relief. In addition, there must have been no weight gain during this period.
Coverage of lipedema treatment by health insurance is tied to certain conditions. In many cases, coverage is only approved after comprehensive proof of the medical necessity of liposuction. This usually includes the lipedema stage, documentation of disease progression, previous treatment attempts, and a detailed justification of why other therapies were insufficient. This evidentiary process generally extends over a period of twelve months.
For patients whose costs are not or only partially covered by health insurance, various financing options are available in the form of installment payments or specialized financing plans. We will gladly help you create a financing plan that matches your financial situation.
Yes, you can extend your clinic stay by additional nights if necessary or desired. Especially after extensive procedures or upon personal request, an extra night can be useful to ensure optimal recovery. The costs for an additional overnight stay are available on request and will be agreed with you individually, depending on your needs and clinic availability.
It is generally possible to bring an accompanying person to your clinic stay. The option for your accompanying person to stay overnight at the clinic is available on request and will be individually arranged. Alternatively, we can assist with hotel recommendations nearby. We are also happy to provide information about local sights and leisure activities so your companion can enjoy their stay as well.
