What I hoped for: to finally be taken seriously with my pain.
What I received: Understanding, competent and empathetic doctors who do everything they can to make me feel better. I have to say that I wanted to make an appointment for the operation straight away at the initial consultation. However, the doctor asked me to sleep on it for a few more nights to be really sure. At no time did I have the feeling that I was being pressured into an operation. The diagnosis of lipoedema was then confirmed by an independent phlebologist. This second diagnosis is required for the tax, which my doctor and the pre-op checklist pointed out to me. After the operation, I was greeted by a caring team, you feel totally at ease in the clinic because the girls look after you so well. After 2 out of 4 operations, I can now finally do exercises on the trampoline without pain and walking is also much easier. THE practice for the treatment of lipoedema! A few years ago I diagnosed myself via their website and then made an appointment. My self-diagnosis was confirmed. In the meantime I have already had 2 operations. I was operated on by Dr. Sauter, who is a very empathetic and attentive person. As a doctor, he works carefully and is really competent. He always takes time for his patients, which I personally find very important.
I also think it’s great that the practice conducts research into lipoedema. This is the only way that the disease will be recognized in the long term and treatment will be covered by health insurance.
Although this practice is in the upper price segment, I wouldn’t want to change. Quality has its price…better an expensive and high quality treatment by a specialist than a cheap botched job with necroses and dents by a surgeon who has no idea about lipoedema.

Frequently asked questions about our fly-in treatment

Is there a weight or BMI limit to qualify for lipedema surgery?

There is no maximum weight limit, we evaluate with each patient with high BMI individually, if the procedure is safe for the patient.
We are highly experienced with high weight patients and are able to offer you a safe and excellent procedure through our specialized anesthesia personnel, care-taker team, and our surgical table is specially designed to carry over 200 kilos.

Is accommodation included in the package?

The overnight stay in our private clinic before and after surgery is included in our treatment package. During this time, you are monitored by our team and receive your first lymphatic drainage.
If you would like to arrive earlier or stay longer, we are happy to help you organize additional nights in the clinic (subject to availability) or book a nearby hotel. These extra nights are not included in the package and are charged separately

What kind of aftercare is included?

Aftercare is an integral part of your treatment and is already included in our package. This typically covers an all-round care at our clinic with breakfast, lunch and dinner, two professional lymphatic drainage sessions, the fitting and application of a high-quality compression garment, and medical follow-up visits.
You also receive a Goodie Bag with essential items and written instructions, as well as direct emergency contact with your surgeon and our team. In addition, we provide guidance on nutrition, movement, and access to LIPOPHYSIO® exercises to support your recovery at home.

What medical documents do I need to provide?

Before we plan your surgery, we ask you to share your relevant medical information with us. This usually includes existing reports on your lipedema diagnosis, a list of current medications and allergies, information on previous operations, and important chronic conditions.
Depending on your health status, we may also request recent blood tests or a medical clearance letter from your general practitioner or specialist. We will send you a clear checklist, so you know exactly which documents we need in your case.

Which languages are spoken at LIPOCURA®?

We are an international team of lipedema specialists and can support you in both German and English at all our locations. Medical explanations, consent forms, and follow-up instructions are available in these languages.
Additional languages may be available depending on the treating physician. Please let us know your preferred language in advance so we can plan your consultation accordingly.

How does the initial consultation for fly-in patients work?

For our fly-in patients, the first step is usually an online video consultation. During this appointment, we review your medical history, symptoms, photos, and expectations and discuss whether liposuction is appropriate, and which areas should be treated.
Once you decide to proceed and travel to us, we perform a detailed in-person examination and a MyLIPOAvatar 3D body scan before surgery. This allows us to finalize the surgical plan, explain all details and risks again, and ensure that you feel well prepared and safe.

Which liposuction method is being used?

At LIPOCURA®, we use Power Assisted Liposuction (PAL) in combination with the tumescent technique. The vibrating cannula of the PAL system allows us to remove diseased fat tissue very evenly and in a particularly tissue sparing way.
With the tumescent solution, we can reduce bleeding, protect lymphatic vessels, and increase safety and comfort during surgery. All procedures are carried out by experienced surgeons and an anesthesia team specialized in lipedema patients.
