What happens next?

An open discussion in which the patient is actively involved is the first step. In addition to conservative measures such as compression, lymphatic drainage and exercise therapy, a differentiated diagnosis should be carried out.

A referral to a lipoedema specialist enables a comprehensive consultation and, if necessary, surgical treatment. A referral to a phlebologist and/or endocrinologist may also be advisable.

The empathetic and continuous care of the patient is essential to support the therapeutic process

The Munich Lipedema Score (MLS) was developed years ago by Dr. von Lukowicz and colleagues in collaboration with the Technische Universität rechts der Isar in order to objectively assess the limited quality of life due to pain in addition to the descriptive staging of Lipedema.

The inclusion of classic symptoms and the thickness of the subcutis makes it possible to recognize how pronounced the findings are. The MLS calculator is a fast, reliable diagnostic tool for primary care physicians from various disciplines and is very easy to use.
