My name is Dilara and I am 29 years old.

I have been diagnosed with lipedema since 2021 and the dissatisfaction that I have little to no control over my weight and can only intervene minimally myself has been a particular burden on the way to surgery.

That was me and my lipedema in stage I – II, type 4.

I tried conservative therapy, but lymphatic drainage in particular was extremely time-consuming for me and I also felt uncomfortable in compression. The additional (extreme) change in diet took away a lot of my quality of life and I quickly realised that I didn’t want to live my life like this forever.

Today I just eat consciously and do sport 4-6 times a week (weight training, running and martial arts) as sporting activities.

My biggest excitement before the operation was waking up after the anaesthetic. As I had never been in hospital before and had therefore never had an operation, I was very worried that I would be unwell after waking up. My fears were quickly allayed and I was given an anti-nausea medication in advance.

My cosy pillow, long and dark clothes and wide shoes were indispensable in my hospital bag.

I would like to say to anyone who still has doubts about the decision to have surgery that the decision to have liposuction was the best decision of my life. Since the liposuctions, I realise more and more every day how a huge weight has been lifted from my shoulders. Not only do I feel more self-confident and open, I can also move more freely and no longer have the annoying pain. I’ve never been so happy in my life and can finally show myself and be who I am. It’s not an easy path, but I would do it again and again!
