What does an initial lipedema consultation involve?

The initial consultation is your first contact with one of our doctors at a LIPOCURA® location of your choice – on-site, by phone, or via video consultation.

We begin with a comprehensive medical history (anamnesis). Our LIPODOCS take the time to understand you and your personal experience with lipedema in detail. You will then receive thorough information about the condition and possible treatment options. We aim to create a space where you feel comfortable asking any questions. You can openly discuss concerns and worries in a trusting and supportive environment.

So we can truly understand what’s happening in your body

To provide a tailored assessment, we carefully examine and palpate the affected areas as well as other parts of the body. To determine fat layer thickness, we perform a precise ultrasound examination and document all measurements.

Tailored to you – your personal treatment plan

Based on these diagnostic steps, your LIPODOC will create a personalized surgical treatment recommendation, taking your individual wishes and needs into account. We consider every aspect of your condition.

You will also receive detailed information about the LIPOCURA® surgical technique and associated costs. In addition, we provide comparative results from similar cases and discuss possible skin-tightening methods to achieve the best possible aesthetic outcome.

What should I bring to my lipedema consultation?

It is important to us to understand your medical history as completely as possible. Do you have any other conditions in addition to lipedema—such as a thyroid disorder, high blood pressure, or similar issues—or have you had surgery in the past? This information helps us accurately assess your situation and tailor the consultation specifically to your needs.

To make things easier for you, we will send you a medical questionnaire in advance by email. You can fill it out comfortably at home, at your own pace and without any time pressure. This allows us to focus on meaningful conversation from the very first minute of your appointment.

If you already have a medical report confirming your lipedema diagnosis, please feel free to bring it with you. If you also have the results of a vein examination, this can provide a valuable basis for our discussion. And if you have an allergy passport, you are welcome to bring that as well. If you don’t have any of these documents, that’s absolutely no problem—they are helpful, but not required.

If available, please bring:

Frequently asked questions about lipedema consultation

How long does a consultation take?

Our doctors take the time to focus on you during your initial consultation. In addition to a detailed discussion of your medical history, you will undergo an ultrasound examination and a 3D scan, and receive a personalized surgical treatment plan. You should generally allow around 90 minutes for this appointment.

How do I book an appointment?

You can conveniently schedule an appointment via our online booking system — at the location closest to you. Alternatively, you can reach us at international@lipocura.de or through our contact form. We look forward to welcoming you.

Can I come without a diagnosis?

Yes, of course. A confirmed diagnosis is not a requirement. You do not necessarily need to bring a medical report either. While it can be helpful, it is not essential. The most important thing is that you reach out if you feel that something is not right.

Can a diagnosis be made via video consultation?

A diagnosis requires a physical examination and is therefore not possible via video consultation. However, the conversation is very well suited to clarifying initial questions, getting to know each other, and jointly considering which next steps may be appropriate.

Is consultation possible during pregnancy?

Yes, absolutely. A consultation is possible at any time both for making a diagnosis and for discussing how you can be treated during pregnancy and breastfeeding. The liposuction itself can then be performed after you have finished breastfeeding. If you are unsure whether this is the right time for you, simply get in touch with us. We are here to support you.

Is the consultation free of charge?

As a medical consultation center, we are legally required to charge a fee for our services. Billing is carried out in accordance with the official fee schedule.

However, we would like to inform you in advance that the €100 fee for the initial consultation will be credited toward the cost of surgery if you decide to proceed with treatment. Your trust is important to us, and we want this to be reflected from the very beginning.

Do I have to decide immediately?

No, after the initial consultation you will receive all documents to take home, including photo documentation and a checklist. You can take your time to process the information, discuss it with your family or partner, and, if you have further questions, you can always book a follow-up consultation. At LIPOCURA®, we place great importance on ensuring that you feel completely and holistically comfortable with your decision—without compromise.
